2nd P7 International Conference on Personalized Medicine

Focus: Personalized Cardiology

July 6-7, 2020  Düsseldorf, Germany

Seminar description

Personalized medicine is based on the idea of using a patient’s genomic characteristics as a factor in deciding on the treatment options, but other factors are also taken into consideration as well. Application of the principles of personalized medicine to management of cardiovascular diseases is referred to as “personalized cardiology”. The conference is aiming at providing a platform for exchange of knowledge in the field of personalized and precision cardiology and giving the participants the latest information and technologies for application of personalized medicine in cardiovascular medicine. Furthermore, the conference provides an interactive fruitful discussion between industry, scientists and clinical professionals.

Conference Chairman

Prof. Dr.  med. Ernst G. Vester

Prof.Dr.med. Ernst G. Vester is an interventional cardiologist at the Evangelic hospital of Düsseldorf, the 2nd biggest hospital in town after the university clinic, and was just recently retired (April 2020) as head of the department of cardiology, which he had founded in 1999.  Now he is going to continue his work joining his friend and colleague Prof. Nixdorff in his outpatient clinic. The heart specialist has more than 35 years of professional experience in cardiology, starting in 1985 at the University of Duesseldorf, where he performed intensively clinical science in nuclear cardiology and interventional electrophysiology – beyond all the clinical work and duties. His main scientific topics were and are the prevention and treatment of malignant ventricular arrhythmias resp. sudden cardiac death in different heart diseases by different, personalized, tailored treatment modalities. For his work he received the viewed Ernst-Edens-Award.

Professor Vester enjoys national and international reputation and lectures worldwide. But this expertise is also in demand throughout Germany. He is involved in different national and international cardiological societies such as the German and the European Society of Cardiology and is the first chairman of the still young association of interventional cardiologists. Also, the training of his colleagues is a personal concern to him, so he regularly organizes training events for physicians and hospital cardiologists. Since the inauguration of the cardiology clinic, he organizes once a year major international symposium on “Current Development in Cardiology, Cardiac surgery and Electrophysiology”.

Scientific & Clinical Directors

Prof. Dr. Karim Nayernia

Prof. Nayernia is a biomedical scientist and a world expert on stem cell biology and personalized medicine. He is an alumnus of the University of Göttingen, In 2003, he got the professorship (Habilitation) in Molecular Human Genetics from Medical Faculty of Georg-August University in Göttingen and in 2006 Professorship for Stem Cell Biology from the Newcastle University Institute of Human Genetics. His lab was the first lab where derived embryonic stem cell like cells from adult germline stem cells and derived the first functional sperm cells from embryonic stem cells and also he discovered a new marker for detection of breast cancer stem cells. Currently He is working now on projects in the field of personalized medicine and director and founder of the International Center for Personalized Medicine and GENEOCELL Company focusing on stem cell technologies and cell therapy.

Prof. Dr. Uwe Nixdorff

Prof. Nixdorff is affiliated at University Clinic Nuremberg-Erlangen where he gives his student lectures; further on he had been the scientific executive for the course of study at Dresden International University (DIU) for application of MSc. as “Master of Science in Preventive Medicine“. He is owner of the Private Practice for Cardiology in Düsseldorf. In addition, he is the founder and Medical Director of the European Prevention Center. Professor Nixdorff’s focus is on cardiovascular preventive medicine with a specialist in comprehensive diagnostics (cross-sectional and functional diagnostics) along with dialogue medicine including detailed consultation on lifestyle. Using state-of-the-art imaging modalities such as ultrasound, multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as well as a functional approach such as heart rate variability (HRV), pulse wave analysis (PWA), partly also flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) subclinical atherosclerosis is assessed which for the experienced medical specialist represents the basis for personalized preventive medicine. Scientifically, those activities are mirrored by 340 original and book publications as well as 675 lectures so far.

 Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hescheler

Prof. Hescheler is Chairman and Director of the Institute for Neurophysiology at the University of Cologne since 1994. He is one of the most eminent and the most productive stem cell researcher’s worldwide, averaging more than 1000 citations of his publications per year. he has  defined many important basic aspects both of fundamental research and of clinical applications. He has been working with embryonic stem cells since the late 80’s. He became the first researcher to accomplish an electrophysiological characterization of stem cells, achieved a first functional characterization of cardiomyocytes developed from embryonic stem cells and was also among the first scientists in Germany obtaining permission to do research on human embryonic stem cells.
